RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister spoke with his Iranian counterpart to discuss the latest regional escalation and efforts to de-escalate tensions, the Saudi state agency reported on Sunday, in their first publicly reported contact since Houthis intensified strikes against the kingdom.
Iran’s foreign minister said Tehran is ready to provide any assistance to facilitate dialogue between Saudi Arabia and Yemen, according to a post on the minister’s Telegram account.
Yemen’s Houthis have struck Saudi Arabia several times in the past week, including an attack on Riyadh’s international airport on Saturday that killed 13 people and wounded more than 300. It was the deadliest in the kingdom in more than a decade.
