PESHAWAR: Secretary General of Tehreek Tahafuz Aeen Pakistan, central leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, former Speaker of the National Assembly Asad Qaiser has said that the federal government’s decision to impose emergency and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has sparked a wave of condemnation and raised serious concerns about democratic integrity and provincial autonomy.

In a statement on the social networking website X, the Secretary General of Tehreek Tahafuz Aeen Pakistan, central leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, former Speaker of the National Assembly Asad Qaiser said that this controversial move, which is seen as undermining the elected provincial government, has been termed an insult to the public mandate and democratic principles.

Critics say that using Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution as political revenge damages the spirit of federal democracy.

Suhail Afridi, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has strongly opposed any compromise on the constitutional rights of the province and the public mandate. He emphasized the need for the inclusion of elected leadership in anti-terrorism strategies, highlighting the significant sacrifices of the province in the fight against terrorism over the past two decades.

The implementation of federal decisions has been termed an irresponsible and dangerous act that overlooks the province’s autonomy. Asad Qaiser, Secretary General of Tehreek Tahafuz Aeen Pakistan and former Speaker of the National Assembly, warned that such actions could increase mistrust and deprivation between the federal units.

Qaiser demanded that the federal government reverse this decision, restore provincial powers, and pursue constitutional and democratic solutions instead of political revenge.
