LAHORE: Governor Sindh Nehal Hashmi on Saturday visited the Punjab Assembly and met Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan in his chamber.
They discussed the current political situation and national affairs. Both emphasised the importance of strengthening parliamentary institutions, upholding the Constitution and promoting inter-provincial cooperation to ensure political stability and continuity of the democratic system.
Malik Ahmad Khan said the sustainable resolution of public issues was closely linked to an empowered parliament and strong democratic institutions. He stressed that parliamentary bodies must play an effective role in national affairs, while constitutional supremacy and parliamentary autonomy should be upheld.
He said keeping the public informed about assembly proceedings and the legislative process was among the Punjab Assembly’s priorities.
The speaker added that stronger links between provincial assemblies and the exchange of parliamentary experiences could further strengthen the democratic system.
Sindh Governor Nehal Hashmi appreciated the Punjab Assembly’s legislative process and parliamentary procedures. He said inter-provincial harmony and cooperation among democratic institutions were important for political stability.
He emphasised that adherence to the Constitution and the law, alongside prioritising public welfare, was essential for effective public representation.
The meeting was also attended by Rashid Nasrullah, Special Assistant to the Punjab Chief Minister on Zakat and Ushr; Member of the Provincial Assembly Rana Arshad; Punjab Assembly Secretary-General Chaudhry Amir Habib; Speaker’s Adviser Usama Khawar; and Principal Secretary Imad Hussain Bhalli.
