Rs10bn subsidy agreed: CM orders wheat, flour supply at affordable prices
LAHORE: Expressing strong displeasure over the increase in flour prices, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif directed the authorities concerned to ensure the availability of wheat and flour at affordable prices under all circumstances.
The CM convened an emergency video-link meeting to address the issue wherein it was agreed to provide a subsidy of Rs10 billion to ensure the uninterrupted supply of flour at affordable rates. It was also decided in the meeting to increase the quota of subsidised government wheat supplied to flour mills at Rs 3,800 per maund. The chief minister approved the Rs10 billion subsidies.
The meeting expressed concern over the trend of artificial increases in market prices of wheat and flour and emphasised the need for effective measures to ensure the availability of flour at affordable prices for the public.
“The burden of inflation on the people of Punjab is extremely painful. We will utilise all available resources to ensure the supply of flour at affordable prices,” the chief minister said. The CM reaffirmed that the provision of affordable flour and low-cost roti would continue.
