Rain, thunderstorms forecast for upper parts through Oct 15
KARACHI: A westerly wave is likely to affect the upper parts of the country through October 15, bringing rain, thunderstorms, strong winds and isolated hailstorms to several areas of Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, the Met Office has said.
Balochistan is expected to remain mainly hot and dry, with isolated rain and thunderstorms in parts of the province, while hot and dry weather is likely to continue across Sindh. Rain, windstorms and thunderstorms, with isolated hailstorms, are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Mianwali, Khushab, Bhakkar, Sargodha, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh and Faisalabad on October 11, 13 and 14, with occasional gaps.
The same weather conditions are expected in Multan, Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Sahiwal, Okara, Pakpattan and Khanewal on October 11 and 13. In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, rain, windstorms and thunderstorms, with isolated hailstorms, are forecast in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Kohat, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Hangu, Lakki Marwat, Karak, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan and Waziristan through October 15.
Similar conditions are likely at isolated places in Kashmir, including Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, rain, windstorms and thunderstorms, with isolated hailstorms, are expected in Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche and Shigar through October 15, with occasional gaps.
Balochistan is likely to remain mainly hot and dry. However, isolated rain, windstorms and thunderstorms are forecast in Zhob, Barkhan and Musakhel on October 11 and 13.
Sindh is expected to remain mainly hot and dry in the coming days. The Met Office warned that strong winds, hailstorms and lightning could damage weak structures, including the roofs and walls of mud houses, electric poles, billboards, vehicles and solar panels.
Hailstorms may also damage standing crops in the plains of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Light snowfall is expected over high mountains and glaciers, while daytime temperatures are likely to fall by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius during the forecast period. Farmers have been advised to plan their agricultural activities according to the expected weather conditions. The Met Office has also urged all concerned authorities to remain vigilant and take necessary measures to prevent any untoward incidents during the forecast period.
