Lahore admin intensifies operations to boost urban governance
LAHORE: The Lahore District Administration has intensified multi-sectoral operations across the provincial capital to boost urban governance, digital reporting, civic hygiene and public health.
In a meeting chaired by Commissioner Lahore Nauman Yousaf, officials on Thursday reviewed the newly launched ‘Nigran’, a municipal issue reporting system. Developed by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), the portal features real-time GIS mapping and dashboard analytics covering nine municipal complaint categories. The system is set to expand province-wide following successful local implementation.
Meanwhile, enforcing a strict “Zero Waste” policy, field teams alongside the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) and Motorway Authority cleared waste along the M2 Motorway. Waste from the Chung dumping point will now be transferred twice weekly to curb odours. Additional cleanups were completed at Corporation Chowk, Mian Mir Graveyard and Hair Graveyard. Moreover, two Tollinton Market shops were penalised for poor hygiene and encroachments.
The administration also escalated dengue surveillance in the city; anti-dengue teams destroyed larvae across several areas, including UC 134, UC 83 (Tehsil City), UC 148 (Tehsil Raiwind), DHA Phase 6, and Pace Woodland Society, followed by targeted chemical spraying. Legal action followed, including an FIR against a Model Town C Block shopkeeper after larvae were found on a roof.
Additionally, a Deputy District Health Officer in Cantonment received a show-cause notice for micro-plan non-compliance.
Moreover, during a field visit to Tehsil Wagah, District Commissioner Captain Muhammad Ali Ijaz (R)reviewed RUDA’s ’Cool Roofs’ pilot project, where reflective coatings on 18 houses reduced roof heat by 13°C and held indoor temperatures to 23–25°C. Plans are underway to extend the project to 94 villages. He also inspected a 5-kanal Temporary Collection Point (TCP) in Hando, ordering all 15 city TCPs to be activated prior to October 10.
Later, at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Sutar Mills, he inspected a new water filtration plant and distributed rewards to high achievers and STEAM exhibition participants.
