ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s concerns over terrorism emanating from Afghanistan, the Jammu and Kashmir dispute and India’s decision to hold the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance figured prominently in talks between United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces (COAS & CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at the General Headquarters (GHQ) on Wednesday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the two sides exchanged views on regional stability and discussed the prevailing regional security environment, matters of mutual interest and the UN’s role in promoting international peace and security.
Field Marshal Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to international peace and highlighted the country’s contributions to United Nations peacekeeping missions.
He also appreciated the role of the United Nations, under Secretary-General Guterres, in advancing peace, stability and humanitarian cooperation.
The UN Secretary-General paid tribute to the sacrifices and contributions of Pakistan and its Armed Forces in the fight against terrorism as well as in UN peacekeeping missions.
Guterres also acknowledged Pakistan’s continued commitment to international peace and security and specifically appreciated its efforts towards the peaceful resolution of regional conflicts.
