ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Wednesday indicted human rights lawyer Imaan Zainab Mazari and her husband, advocate Hadi Ali Chattha, in a case involving allegations of violating security protocols and assaulting police personnel.

ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra, while hearing the case, indicted the lawyers, who were produced before the court through a video link, in the case registered at the Secretariat Police Station.

The case was registered against the couple on October 29, 2023, after they allegedly removed road barriers during the England cricket team’s visit.

During the hearing, the court summoned prosecution witnesses to record their statements at the next hearing on October 9.

Chatha told the court that he has so far not received copies of the charge sheet. Charges cannot be framed until the fulfilment of legal formalities, he said.

Defence counsel Zainab Janjua argued before the court that neither copies of the charge sheet were provided to both the accused nor were their lawyers allowed to meet with them. The judge said that court has already provided copies of challan. You can challenge this order, the judge told the defence counsel.

The court directed jail authorities to produce the couple in the court and adjourned the case till October 9.
