ISLAMABAD: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is arriving in Pakistan on Tuesday (today) on a high-level three-day visit, with regional and international developments, peace and security, multilateralism and disaster preparedness high on the agenda, the Foreign Office (FO) said in a statement on Monday.
At the invitation of the Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister (DPM/FM) Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres will undertake an official visit to Pakistan from 6th to 8th October 2026, the statement added.
During the visit, the secretary-general will hold meetings with Pakistan’s leadership, including the President of Pakistan, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, the Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister, and the Chief of Defence Forces & Chief of Army Staff.

The secretary-general will visit the headquarters of the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) and attend a briefing at the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Pakistan.
The UN secretary-general will also have other engagements, during which Pakistan’s efforts towards strengthening multilateralism and international peace and security, as well as its strides towards disaster preparedness and early warning, will be highlighted.
The visit of the UN secretary-general will offer an important opportunity to reiterate Pakistan’s longstanding cooperation with the United Nations, and to exchange views on regional and international developments.
The visit will provide an opportunity to acknowledge the able leadership and vital contributions of the UN Secretary-General in the areas of international peace and development.
The forthcoming visit reflects Pakistan’s unwavering support for multilateralism with UN at its core, and its abiding commitment to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.
The UNSG will also hold a joint press stakeout with the Deputy Prime Minister/ Foreign Minister Dar at MoFA on Tuesday afternoon.
UNSG’s third official visit comes four years after his last trip to Pakistan in September 2022, in the aftermath of devastating floods. During his stay, Guterres toured flood-affected areas in Sindh and Balochistan.
Guterres first visited Pakistan in February 2020 to spend several days in Islamabad and Lahore, participating in an international conference on 40 years of Pakistan hosting Afghan refugees, and visiting Kartarpur.
