KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon on Monday said the government did not differentiate between children, adding that “the child of Karachi is our child, and the child of Thar is also our child”.

In a statement issued in response to MQM-P leader Farooq Sattar’s press conference, he asked Sattar to explain who had introduced the youth of Karachi to the culture of weapons, extortion and bodies packed in sacks, alleging that the MQM had placed guns in the hands of Karachi’s youth for its political and personal interests.

Sharjeel said that for three decades, people like Farooq Sattar had sought to shape public opinion on the basis of prejudice, adding that the politics of “our children and other people’s children” would no longer work.

He said that if Sattar had evidence of irregularities in the MDCAT examinations, he should present it.

“Whenever he gets a microphone, he has nothing to offer except allegations,” he said, adding that the success of a student could not be made controversial merely through allegations.

The minister termed it “a foolish argument” to link the construction work on the Red Line BRT project with MDCAT results.

He asked Sattar who had deprived the children of Karachi of education, employment and development and instead promoted the politics of weapons, extortion, fear and violence?

He said the youth of Karachi were now turning towards books and pens and should not again be pushed into a politics of division based on “our children and other people’s children”.

Sharjeel said the political and social environment allegedly created by the MQM in Karachi had been endured by the city for years.

If a child from Thar secured higher marks, he said, the question should not be “How did they get them?” but rather “How can more children of Sindh achieve higher marks?”
