All set to increase rice exports to Malaysia

ISLAMABAD: Following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directives and the efforts of relevant ministries and authorities, arrangements have been completed to increase Pakistani rice exports to Malaysia by an additional 70,000 metric tonnes from October to December 2026, the government said on Friday.

The Prime Minister’s Office said the additional exports were secured through effective diplomatic and trade efforts, with relevant ministries and authorities pursuing the matter with Malaysia in accordance with the PM’s directions.

PM Sharif praised the efforts of the team involved in securing the additional rice exports, particularly appreciating the efforts of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal, the commerce secretary and the secretary for national food security.

The PM said the export of an additional 70,000 metric tonnes of Pakistani rice was an important development for the prosperity of farmers and the national economy.

“Expanding access to international markets for Pakistani agricultural commodities is the government’s top priority,” Sharif said, according to the statement.

“We will continue our journey towards the goal of export-led economic growth through sustained efforts,” he added.
