Pakistan’s trade deficit surges 6% YoY to $3.6bn in September 2026
- Country’s trade balance, the gap between exports and imports, was recorded at a deficit of $3.35 billion in September 2025
Pakistan’s trade deficit marginally increased by over 6% to $3.56 billion in September 2026, as compared to the same month of the previous year, data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) showed on Friday.
The country’s trade balance, the gap between exports and imports, was recorded at a deficit of $3.35 billion in September 2025.
The trade deficit expanded year-on-year (YoY) in September 2026 despite higher exports.
Exports in September 2026 stood at $2.94 billion, up 17.6% against $2.5 billion recorded in September 2025.
Meanwhile, imports were recorded at $6.49 billion, up over 11% against $5.85 billion in the same period last year (SPLY).
On a month-on-month (MoM) basis, the trade deficit was up nearly 8% in September 2026 against $3.29 billion in August 2026.
During the first quarter (July-September) of the fiscal year 2026-27 (1QFY27), the country’s trade deficit increased by over 15% to $10.79 billion from $9.37 billion recorded in SPLY.
Exports in 1QFY27 increased by nearly 11% to $8.42 billion from $7.59 billion in SPLY.
On the other hand, imports in 1QFY27 rose by over 13% to $19.22 billion from $16.97 billion recorded in 1QFY26.
