LAHORE: In a bid to overhaul the historic Walled City, Punjab Housing and Urban Development Minister Bilal Yasin has revealed that projects targeting encroachment removal, subterranean wiring, park restorations, and new parking plazas are underway to modernise public facilities and alleviate chronic traffic pressure.

During an open court session held in his constituency on Thursday, he shared his views while listening to the complaints and concerns of the citizens. Residents and representatives from various Union Councils informed the provincial minister about their problems and requested solutions.

He said the process of providing loans to low-income families for construction and repair of houses would be further expedited. He also said that ongoing development projects in the Walled City of Lahore are aimed at providing better facilities to citizens and enhancing the beauty of the historic city. “The network of development projects in the Walled City reflects the public service vision of Mian Nawaz Sharif,” he added.

The Minister said that restoration of parks and improvement of building facades would bring a visible positive change in the quality of life of citizens, adding that completion of various parking plazas next year would significantly reduce traffic pressure in the city.

On this occasion, Yasin directed the concerned officers to ensure immediate redressal of public complaints and provide every possible facility to citizens in resolving issues related to government departments. He said that maintaining peace, stability and continuity of routine life is essential amid the prevailing political situation. He added that the people and the government are jointly facing challenges in difficult economic circumstances.

He disclosed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would soon announce measures aimed at reducing the impact of inflation and providing relief to the common man.
