The Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly is expected to take up the Asaan Karobar Act shortly, as the region moves to streamline regulatory processes and facilitate businesses under the government’s broader investment and business-environment reform agenda.

The development came during a meeting between Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Amjad Hussain and Secretary SIFC Jamil Ahmed Qureshi, held to discuss investment facilitation, regulatory reforms and measures to promote economic activity in the region, read a statement on Wednesday.

The SIFC team briefed the chief minister on the government’s key priorities of investment facilitation and regulatory reforms, being advanced across the country through the Asaan Karobar Act. The initiative aims to streamline regulatory processes, facilitate businesses and create a more conducive environment for investment and economic growth.

The “Asaan Karobar” initiatives encompass both federal and provincial legislative efforts, as well as specific financial and taxation schemes, all aimed at simplifying business processes and promoting economic growth in Pakistan.

On June 30, 2025, the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) introduced a draft bill, the “KP Aasan Karobar Act, 2025,” in its legislature. This act aims to establish, regulate, and manage a one-window business facilitation portal to streamline regulatory approvals and enhance the ease of doing business in the province.

Meanwhile, the meeting also focused on promoting industrialisation in Gilgit-Baltistan and exploring opportunities for investment through Special Economic Zones (SEZs). SIFC highlighted its role in facilitating investors, coordinating with relevant stakeholders and supporting the development of commercially viable investment opportunities.

SIFC reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan to unlock the region’s investment potential, strengthen the business environment and facilitate investors through coordinated institutional support.
