Congressman Tom terms Pakistan a victim of terrorism

LAHORE: Chairman of the Pakistan Caucus in the United States Congress, Congressman Tom Suozzi, has said that Pakistan is the victim of terrorism more than any other country in the world, including Burkina Faso, according to a press release issued here on Sunday.

The statement was made during a meeting between Congressman Suozzi and renowned foreign affairs expert Muhammad Mehdi in New York.

The press release said that Pakistan’s mountainous and difficult terrain makes securing its border a far greater challenge than that faced by the United States, and that Suozzi pledged US intelligence sharing and support for arms sales to help Pakistan counter terrorism.

Calling Pakistan a vital regional player, Suozzi cited its role in easing tensions between the US and Iran and its potential, driven by a young population and rich natural resources, to deepen economic ties with the United States. He proposed an independent arbitration board, modelled on Kazakhstan, involving Pakistani, American and British jurists to boost investor confidence.

On Pakistan-India relations, the press release said Suozzi recalled becoming the first US congressman to visit Kartarpur Sahib in 2025, and urged reopening the border crossing along with cultural exchanges such as cricket matches.

Muhammad Mehdi said Pakistan maintains a balanced foreign policy capable of bridging global powers, as it once did between the US and China, and called for greater US market access for Pakistani goods alongside civilian reforms.
