PM’s Special Relief Scheme extended

Published Updated

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday extended the Prime Minister’s Special Relief Scheme to motorcyclists, chingchi and rickshaw drivers who buy less than five litres of petrol at a time.

The decision follows feedback received from across the country since the scheme’s nationwide launch.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, under the revised arrangement, this category of users will now receive a flat discount of Rs500 per week against a single token, redeemable once weekly.

A total of four such tokens will be issued per month, ensuring low-volume fuel buyers are not excluded from benefits already available to larger vehicle owners.

The scheme’s original structure remains unchanged for other beneficiaries: owners of vehicles up to 800cc will continue to receive a Rs100-per-litre discount on 10 litres of petrol every ten days, amounting to three tokens of 10 litres each per month, as before.

The statement said the move builds on a series of recent adjustments to the scheme.

The Prime Minister had earlier announced that the registration message for eligible applicants would be made completely free of charge, removing a cost barrier to enrolment.

He had also directed that motorcycles, rickshaws and chingchi rickshaws up to 20 years old be brought into the scheme, an instruction that has since been implemented.

All such vehicles registered on or after 1 January 2006 are now eligible to register for the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme.

It said the prime minister was personally overseeing every aspect of the scheme’s rollout and had directed authorities to widen the pool of beneficiaries while ensuring petrol relief is delivered smoothly, with dignity, and without obstruction.
