ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was informed on Thursday that regular classes at Danish University will begin on September 20, 2027.

In a briefing to a review meeting chaired by the prime minister, officials said 185 applications had been received so far for various faculty positions, with the selection process for top faculty under way.

The prime minister said quality, merit-based education for the country’s promising and deserving students was the government’s top priority, adding that the university would give talented youth access to world-class education and emerge as a centre of excellence in technology, both nationally and regionally.

Officials also told the meeting that a talent hunt had been launched for second-year FSc and A-Level students to join the university’s virtual school.

Students selected through the programme will receive five months of fully free classes, with the entrance test to be held in more than 40 cities on October 24, 2026.

The university building is expected to be completed by next year. In its initial phase, the institution will offer programmes in bioengineering, electrical engineering, artificial intelligence, computer science, and technology and society.

A bridge programme will also be introduced to prepare and support students ahead of the start of regular classes, running from August 10 to September 14, 2027.

The meeting was attended by Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Law Minister Azam Tarar, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Cheema, Education Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Danish University Board of Trustees Chairman Arif Saeed, and senior government officials.
