Fuel subsidy scheme: PM directs setting up of facilitation desks
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday directed the government to set up facilitation desks at petrol stations to help eligible citizens register for and receive fuel subsidies under the PM Special Relief Scheme.
The scheme, which provides subsidies to owners of motorcycles, rickshaws and vehicles up to 800cc, has now been launched across the country, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The scheme was introduced to provide relief to low and middle-income groups affected by higher petroleum prices amid the situation in the Gulf.
Chairing a review meeting, the prime minister directed that the facilitation desks be staffed by administration officials, volunteers and petrol station personnel.
They will guide eligible citizens through the registration process and other requirements.

Sharif also directed the relevant authorities to step up public awareness efforts and ensure that citizens are provided with all necessary information about the scheme.
The meeting was informed that the scheme had initially been piloted in Islamabad before being rolled out nationwide.
Officials said the registration process had been kept simple and required only four pieces of information: the applicant’s Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) number, vehicle number plate, province of registration and date of vehicle registration.
The number of successful registrations was gradually increasing, the meeting was told.
Provincial governments were also cooperating with the federal government in implementing the scheme across the country.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, information Minister Attaullah Tarar, IT Minister Shaza Fatima and Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, State Minister for Finance Bilal Kayani, and senior officials attended the meeting.
