ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday strongly condemned the Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, describing the targeting of civilian and energy facilities as a cowardly act that endangered innocent lives and posed a serious threat to regional peace and security.
In a statement posted on X, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and the people of Saudi Arabia.
The statement came hours after Yemen’s Houthis carried out attacks on four cities in southern Saudi Arabia, targeting civilian areas and energy infrastructure.
The strikes reportedly left more than 70 people injured and triggered fires at oil facilities, in what appeared to be a significant escalation of the six-month-old conflict, further raising tensions across the Middle East.
Prime Minister Sharif said such attacks endangered civilians and had wider implications for regional stability and security. He reiterated Pakistan’s firm support for the Kingdom’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.
“Such dastardly attacks threaten innocent lives as well as regional peace and security,” he said, while praying for the speedy recovery of those injured in the attacks.
Meanwhile, Pakistan condemned, in the strongest possible terms, the ‘reprehensible attacks’ carried out by the Houthi militia against civilian and economic targets in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, the Foreign Office spokesperson said, “These attacks are a flagrant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom, pose a threat to peace and stability of the entire region, and undermine efforts aimed at securing a peaceful and durable resolution of the conflict in Yemen.”
Pakistan reiterates its unwavering support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, security and prosperity of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and stands in complete solidarity with the leadership, Government and brotherly people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Pakistan also conveys its sincere wishes for the swift and full recovery of all those injured in the attacks.
Consistent with the UN Charter and international law, Pakistan fully supports the Kingdom’s legitimate right to take all necessary measures to defend its territory, protect its citizens and residents, and safeguard its national assets against any threat.
Pakistan has been and will continue to make all efforts to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region.
