ISLAMABAD: Security forces killed 15 terrorists attempting to infiltrate into Pakistan from Afghanistan opposite North Waziristan District following a 36-hour engagement.

According to the military’s media wing, the movement of a group belonging to the Indian-sponsored Fitna al-Khawarij was detected along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border on the night of August 31-September 1.

“Own troops responded professionally and with patience to engage them successfully,” ISPR said, adding that 15 terrorists were killed during the precise and coordinated engagement.

During a subsequent sanitisation operation, security forces also recovered a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition from the killed terrorists.

ISPR said the infiltration attempt once again reinforced Pakistan’s longstanding position that Afghan soil was being used by terrorist groups to carry out cross-border attacks.

The military accused the Afghan Taliban government of failing to prevent the use of its territory for terrorism and said Kabul had “consistently failed to ensure effective border management and honour its international obligations.”

Security forces are continuing sanitisation operations in the area to locate and eliminate any other terrorists, the statement added.

ISPR reiterated that Pakistan’s security forces and law enforcement agencies would continue their counter-terrorism campaign under Azm-e-Istehkam, as approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, to eliminate foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.
