Fake video case: Court records statement of Azma

Published Updated

LAHORE: A city court on Wednesday recorded the statement of Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari as complainant in a case of circulation of her alleged fake video.

The court adjourned the proceedings till September 12 for cross-examination of Bokhari’s statement.

On the court’s directions, accused Falak Javed was also brought before the court.

While recording her statement Azma Bokhari said, “This is a matter concerning the honour of a woman. This was not an ordinary civil case”, said Azma adding that she had suffered immense distress after a fake video was circulated in her name. Bukhari also alleged that the accused Falak Javed had posted the video on X, after which it spread widely across social media.

During the recording a heated exchange were took place between Bukhari and Falak after an objection raised by the lawyer of accused.

Bukhari called Falak a liar and told her to “have some shame”. Falak in reply said that there was no evidence against her and that she had been in jail for a year.

The presiding officer, however, intervened and directed both women to remain silent.

The minister said she had requested permission to record her statement through video link due to security concerns.

The presiding officer, however, said the court respected women and rejected the claims that the case had been delayed due to the court. The court said, Bukhari’s associates had repeatedly appeared and sought dates. Bukhari’s lawyer, however, denied delaying tactics and said they had sought video-link proceedings.

Falak’s counsel, however, said he needed at least six hours to cross-examine Bukhari.

The court adjourned the proceedings accordingly till next hearing.
