Published Updated

LAHORE: Following recent hospital safety concerns across the country, Commissioner Lahore Division Nauman Yousaf and Deputy Commissioner Lahore Captain Ali Ejaz (R) visited Mayo Hospital and the Children’s Hospital on Thursday to inspect existing fire hydrants and emergency infrastructure.

Joined by officials from Rescue 1122, WASA, Punjab Communication and Works Department, Civil Defence, and the district administration, the Commissioner directed Rescue 1122 to immediately execute a comprehensive survey of all hospitals in Lahore and submit a full report on fire hydrants on Thursday.

Emphasizing a zero-tolerance approach to safety gaps, Commissioner Nauman Yousaf instructed all departments to work in coordination to complete the installation and operationalisation of safety equipment, engage LESCO teams for electrical audits, verify fire extinguisher functionality, and ensure unobstructed access for fire brigade vehicles.

The Commissioner emphasised that teams should check the operational status of fire hydrants and identify the need for any additional hydrants. He highlighted the importance of verifying the functionality of safety equipment and reviewing the training provided for its use.

Furthermore, he stressed that teams should consider all aspects related to fire extinguishers, water bowsers, hydrants, and the unhindered movement of fire brigade vehicles. He also mentioned that all hospitals have the full cooperation of the district administration, with district teams present alongside hospital administrations. These teams must conduct a thorough inspection of the safety equipment and complete the survey by the end of the day.
