Uzma Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has filed another application in the Supreme Court seeking an urgent hearing of a contempt of court petition over the alleged non-implementation of the court’s order regarding his medical examination, Aaj News reported on Thursday.

According to sources, the petition states that Imran’s health is deteriorating in jail and that the matter concerning his health and life is really important. Uzma has requested the Supreme Court to issue orders for his transfer to Shifa International Hospital for a comprehensive medical examination and treatment.

The application contends that, in alleged violation of the top court’s August 18 order, Imran was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) instead of Shifa International Hospital.

It maintains that the court’s order was not implemented in its true spirit and seeks immediate and complete implementation of the directives.

Uzma argued that continued non-compliance with judicial orders amounted to deliberate and blatant disregard for the law. She further maintained that the court’s case-fixation policy should not stand in the way of an urgent hearing of the contempt petition.

The application requests the Supreme Court to fix the contempt petition for hearing on an urgent basis, preferably during the current or coming week.

Earlier, a request filed on August 25 seeking an urgent hearing of the contempt petition was rejected, while a previous application seeking immediate hearing was also returned by the Supreme Court registrar’s office.

The Supreme Court had, on August 18, ordered Imran’s transfer from the Adiala jail to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for a medical examination.

The court had directed that he be transferred to the hospital within two days and that a comprehensive medical board be constituted. It had also issued orders regarding family meetings and telephone contact with his sons.

However, instead of Shifa International Hospital, Imran was taken to PIMS between Thursday and Friday, where he underwent a medical examination before being shifted back to the Adiala jail at around 5am.

The PTI subsequently filed a contempt of court petition in the Supreme Court on August 19 over the alleged non-compliance with the court’s order. The petition was initially returned but was later allowed to be refiled after the registrar’s objections were addressed.
