Govt deploys army in Rawalpindi for six months

ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Saturday authorized the deployment of the Pakistan Army in Rawalpindi for six months to perform sensitive security duties and avert any untoward situation.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Interior following a request from the Home Department, Government of Punjab, Lahore, dated July 22, the federal government, in exercise of the powers conferred under Article 245 of the Constitution of Pakistan, has authorized the deployment of three companies of the Pakistan Army in Rawalpindi for sensitive security duties.

The deployment is aimed at preventing any undesirable situation and enabling the army to respond effectively to any unforeseen circumstances, as required by the district administration.

The deployment will remain in effect for a period of six months with immediate effect.
