The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has filed a contempt petition in the Supreme Court, accusing the government of violating the court’s orders regarding the transfer of party founder Imran Khan to hospital and his subsequent return to the Adiala jail, Aaj News reported on Saturday.

The petition, filed following a decision of the PTI’s parliamentary committee, seeks show-cause notices against those responsible for allegedly violating the Supreme Court’s directives and requests that they be summoned in person.

The party has also asked the court to order the immediate transfer of Imran back to Shifa International Hospital for medical treatment.

The Supreme Court had directed that Imran be shifted to a hospital within two days, a comprehensive medical board be constituted, and arrangements be made for him to meet family members and speak to his sons by phone.

Acting on the court’s order, the government transferred Imran from the Adiala jail to Shifa International Hospital late Thursday night. However, after his medical examination was completed, he was shifted back to the jail compound at around 5am under tight security, only a few hours after his arrival at the hospital.

Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar said Imran had been transferred to the hospital in accordance with the apex court’s ruling for a medical examination.

Tarar said a team of qualified doctors, including an ophthalmologist, cardiologist and physician, conducted a detailed medical assessment and declared Imran medically fit.

He also said Imran’s sister, Uzma Khan, remained present at the hospital throughout the medical examination.

PTI, however, maintains that the government failed to implement the Supreme Court’s order in its true spirit and merely completed a formal medical procedure before sending Imran Khan back to jail.

The party has therefore sought contempt proceedings against those it holds responsible for the alleged violation of the court’s directives.

Meanwhile, the government has already filed a review petition before the Supreme Court challenging the decision.
