KARACHI: Sindh Planning, Development and Irrigation Minister Jam Khan Shoro on Friday held talks with Asian Development Bank (ADB) officials on strengthening the province’s agriculture sector, promoting mechanised farming and improving the sustainable management of natural resources.

The meeting reviewed potential ADB-supported initiatives to increase agricultural productivity, introduce modern machinery and technology, strengthen value chains and improve farmers’ access to markets.

ADB Principal Natural Resources and Agriculture Economist Shingo Kimura, Agriculture and Natural Resources Officer Umar Saeed, and consultants Kazim Saeed and Banaras Khan attended the meeting.

Discussions also covered value addition, market linkages, natural resource management and possible future development projects for Sindh’s agriculture and rural economy.

The Minister said the Sindh government was pursuing measures to promote sustainable agriculture, modern farming technology, mechanisation and greater productivity among farmers.

He said cooperation with international development institutions, particularly the ADB, could make these initiatives more effective and produce tangible results for the province’s farming communities.

The meeting agreed to strengthen cooperation and continue work on development initiatives focused on agriculture, mechanisation, value chains and sustainable natural resource management.

The discussions are part of broader efforts to modernise Sindh’s agricultural sector and improve the economic opportunities available to farmers through better technology, production systems and market access.
