PESHAWAR: Advisor to KP CM on Finance Muzzammil Aslam has directed all seven Water and Sanitation Services Companies (WSSPs) operating across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for payment of the announced minimum wage to employees.

He issued these directives while chairing a meeting held here at Committee Room of the Finance Department on Friday.

The meeting reviewed in detail the administrative and financial affairs of the companies, expenditure reduction, employees’ wages, audit reports, billing systems, and issues affecting drainage and sewerage systems.

Addressing the meeting, Muzzammil directed that contingent employees working in Water and Sanitation Services Companies across the province must, under all circumstances, be paid the minimum wage announced by the provincial government.

The Advisor said that the additional funds required in accordance with the increase in the minimum wage would be provided by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Finance Department. However, he emphasised that the companies would have to ensure effective control over their expenditures and maintain financial discipline.

He directed the Water and Sanitation Services Companies in Kohat and Swat to take immediate measures to reduce unnecessary expenditures, while he appreciated the measures being taken by the Water and Sanitation Services Company Peshawar to control its expenditures.

The meeting decided that the Water and Sanitation Services Companies would introduce separate billing services for commercial activities, while the billing systems of all companies would be shifted online immediately.

The Advisor said that online billing would not only improve transparency and efficiency in the system but also significantly reduce expenditure on manpower and stationery.

Muzzammil also directed effective action against encroachments affecting drainage systems. He said that coordinated measures should be taken in collaboration with district administrations and Tehsil Municipal Officers (TMOs) so that drainage systems in urban areas could remain operational and function more effectively.
