ISLAMABAD: The Privatisation Commission (PC) said on Friday that local and international prospective investors had shown keen interest in the privatisation of Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO), with 11 firms and consortiums submitting Expressions of Interest (EOIs) to acquire a controlling stake of between 51 percent and 100 percent in the power distribution utility.

The names of interested parties are: Aktor Elektrik Enerji Yatırımları San. ve Tic. A.Ş. – Türkiye; Genvera Enerji A.Ş. – Türkiye; Cengiz Enerji Sanayii ve Ticaret A.Ş. – Türkiye; Al Sharif Contracting and Commercial Development Company – Saudi Arabia; Engro Energy Limited – Pakistan; Sapphire Fibers Limited – Pakistan; Hub Power Holdings and Lucky Cement – Pakistan; Shirazi Investments (Pvt) Limited – Pakistan; Artistic Milliners (Private) Limited and Fatima Group – Pakistan; K-Electric Limited – Pakistan; and AKD Securities, Fast Cable and Mughal Steel Group – Pakistan.

The Expressions of Interest and Statements of Qualification (SOQs) submitted by the interested parties will now undergo a comprehensive evaluation against the approved prequalification criteria.

Applicants meeting the prescribed requirements will be prequalified and invited to the next stage of the transaction, where they will be granted access to the Virtual Data Room (VDR) to undertake detailed buy-side due diligence.

The interested parties include investors from Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and several of Pakistan’s leading business groups. “Today marks another important achievement in the privatisation of DISCOs.

The strong response for GEPCO is indicative of investor confidence in the potential of Pakistan’s electricity distribution sector and in the Government’s commitment to a transparent, competitive and professionally managed process,” said Muhammad Ali, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Privatisation and Chairman, Privatisation Commission.

“We look forward to engaging constructively with the prequalified investors during the due-diligence phase and discussing the contours of the post-privatisation regime. This privatisation aims to improve operational efficiency, modernise distribution infrastructure, strengthen customer service, reduce losses and support a more financially sustainable power sector. In the long run, these measures will help create the conditions for more competitive electricity distribution and affordable, reliable power for consumers,” he added.

GEPCO is among the three electricity distribution companies in DISCOs Batch-I, alongside Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) and Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO).

The deadline for submission of EOIs for IESCO is September 17, 2026, while EOIs from twelve (12) interested parties have been received for FESCO by the deadline of August 7, 2026.
