ISLAMABAD: The Petroleum Division has announced hike in prices of petrol and High-Speed Diesel (HSD) for next three days i.e. August 22 to 24, alongside Rs1.34 per litre increase in dealer margins for both fuels.

With this revision, the price of HSD has been increased by Rs3.59 per litre, bringing the new rate up from Rs364.70 to Rs368.29 per litre. Similarly, the price of petrol has been hiked by Rs3.81 per litre, rising from Rs337.78 to Rs341.59 per litre.

Following approval from the Federal Cabinet, dealer margins have been increased by Rs1.34 per litre. This has raised the fixed dealer margin from Rs8.64 to Rs9.98 per litre, effectively averting a nationwide strike threatened by the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA).

Petroleum Levy on both the products is now Rs80 per litre each. Customs duty has been maintained at Rs21 per litre for petrol and Rs15.68 per litre for HSD. Climate Support Levy (CSL) has been held steady at Rs5 per litre for both fuels. Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) margins remain unchanged at Rs7.87 across both the products.

To curb rising HSD costs, the government had applied its pricing mechanism, capping the local diesel crack spread at USD 41.50 per barrel well below the prevailing international market margin of around USD 68.

Under the current daily pricing mechanism, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) adjusts retail fuel rates based on exchange rate fluctuations and a seven-day rolling average.
