ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has urged opposition leaders associated with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to join parliamentary committees and play an active role in the legislative process.

Bilawal made the remarks during a meeting with Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Allama Raja Nasir Abbas,here on Wednesday.

The meeting was attended by PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, Tehreek Tahafuz-e-Aain Pakistan Secretary General Asad Qaiser, the alliance’s Vice Chairman Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, PTI Chief Whip in the National Assembly Amir Dogar, MNA Adil Bazai and alliance spokesperson Akhunzada Hussain.

PPP leaders Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Sherry Rehman, Naveed Qamar and Nadeem Afzal Chan were also present.

The participants discussed parliamentary affairs and the prevailing political situation in the country.

Bilawal requested the opposition leaders to join parliamentary committees and play an effective role in their proceedings. The opposition leaders said they would decide after consulting PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

The PPP and opposition leaders also agreed to enhance contacts and coordination on legislation in Parliament.

Bilawal urged the opposition to play its role in electoral reforms to ensure transparency in future elections.

He also welcomed the transfer of Imran Khan to a hospital for medical treatment following a Supreme Court decision, describing it as a positive democratic tradition.
