KARACHI: A provincial Peace Message Committee meeting, chaired by Commissioner Karachi Syed Hasan Naqvi on Tuesday, assembled senior police officials and religious leaders from different schools of thought and faiths to strengthen harmony, tolerance and social cohesion in the city.

Additional Inspector General Karachi Azad Khan, Islamic scholars and representatives of various religious communities also attended the meeting, held at the Commissioner’s Office.

Participants welcomed the formation of the committee and pledged to work together to promote mutual respect, tolerance, stability and harmony for the country’s development and prosperity.

Naqvi said religious scholars and community leaders had an important role in promoting peace and understanding in society. He said the committee would help strengthen dialogue among different sections of society and contribute to efforts to maintain peace.

The meeting agreed that leaders of different faiths and schools of thought would cooperate during religious festivals and promote friendship, respect, tolerance and goodwill.

It was also decided to strengthen coordination between religious leaders, the Karachi administration and police. Authorities would provide all possible assistance and cooperation for the peaceful organisation of religious events.

Additional Commissioner Karachi Muhammad Atif was appointed as coordinator to strengthen communication between the committee, administration and police.

Officials also agreed to establish a WhatsApp group comprising committee members and relevant authorities for rapid coordination.

The meeting further decided that DCs would convene meetings of district-level Peace Message Committees in their respective districts.

Officials from the Auqaf and Zakat Department, including Special Secretary Ataullah Bukhari, as well as religious scholars and community representatives, attended the meeting.

Among the participants were Mufti Nauman Naeemi, Mufti Rafiur Rehman, Allama Syed Athar Hussain Mashhadi, Mufti Muhammad Nazir Jan Naeemi, Maulana Nazir Ahmed Naeemi, Mufti Yahya Majeed, Sardar Ramesh Singh Khalsa and Goswami Vijay Kumar Geer Maharaj.

The committee’s initiative aims to create a stronger institutional channel for cooperation among religious communities and authorities, particularly during religious events and periods of heightened sensitivity.
