ISLAMABAD: On the recommendations of Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra), the Petroleum Division has announced an upward revision in ex-depot fuel prices, effective from August 18, following a three-day delay over the weekend.

The rate of petrol has been increased by Rs5.77 per litre, rising from Rs325.43 to Rs 331.20. Whereas, the price of High-Speed Diesel (HSD) has been increased by Rs6.47 per litre, rising from Rs383.95 to Rs390.42 per litre.

The Petroleum Levy (PL) has been raised by Re1 per litre on HSD (from Rs77.28 to Rs78.28), while petrol remains unchanged at Rs80 per litre. Customs duty has been maintained at Rs21 per litre for petrol and Rs15.68 per litre for HSD.

Climate Support Levy (CSL) has been held steady at Rs5 per litre for both fuels. Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and dealer margins remain unchanged at Rs7.87 and Rs8.64 per litre, respectively, across both products.

In a recent tweet, Finance Minister’s Adviser Khurram Shehzad defended the gradual increase in the petroleum levy on high speed diesel, saying the adjustment represents a gradual return to the budgeted levy level rather than a new tax increase. The IMF staff will review Pakistan EFF and RSF programmes next month.

Under the daily pricing framework, Ogra adjusts fuel rates based on currency exchange fluctuations and a seven-day rolling average of Singapore Platts trends.
