LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority raided an illegal slaughterhouse in Saggian and recovered 700kg of foul smelling and expired meat.
An FIR was lodged against the slaughterhouse owner, while hazardous meat was discarded, said a spokesman on Saturday.
He said the operation was conducted under the direct supervision of DG PFA Raja Mansoor Ahmad.
The meat safety team found that the meat had turned blue and upon detailed inspection, it was found to be infected with multiple dangerous diseases. The Director General said that fluid-filled sacs and worms were found in the meat fibres, making it extremely hazardous for human consumption.
Raja Mansoor Ahmad said that the illegal slaughter and storage facility had been established secretly in a residential area. He said that the owner fled the site upon the arrival of the PFA team. Facility had no valid food license or mandatory records, while the meat was being stored directly on the floor in violation of food safety SOPs.
