ISLAMABAD: A dignified and inclusive flag-hoisting ceremony was held at the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday to commemorate the 79th Independence Day of Pakistan.
In a symbolic expression of Pakistan’s constitutional commitment to equality, inclusion, and religious harmony, the national flag was hoisted by children belonging to minority communities, the Chief Justice of Pakistan, the judges of the Supreme Court, a Hindu Pandit, a Christian Priest, and a Muslim Cleric.
The ceremony was attended by the CJP Justice Yahya Afridi, judges of the Supreme Court, the Registrar, officers, staff, and their children. The national anthem was played by the Police Band, adding a sense of solemnity and national pride to the occasion.
The participation of people from diverse religious communities in the flag-hoisting ceremony underscored the message that Pakistan belongs equally to all its citizens and that the country’s strength lies in its diversity, unity, and shared commitment to the ideals of the Constitution.
The Chief Justice interacted warmly with the children and guided them through Courtroom No.1, acquainting them with the working environment of the Supreme Court and making the occasion a meaningful and memorable experience for them. The celebrations also included the traditional cutting of the Independence Day cake by the Chief Justice, judges, and the children, symbolizing the shared joy and spirit of the national occasion.
In his Independence Day message, the Chief Justice extended felicitations to the people of Pakistan and the legal fraternity, paying tribute to the vision, sacrifices, and determination that made an independent Pakistan possible. He emphasized that independence carries an enduring responsibility to uphold values, protect rights, and strengthen citizens’ confidence in State institutions.
A press room, dedicated to reporters covering the Supreme Court, was also inaugurated on Friday at the Supreme Court of Pakistan, as part of the Court’s continuing efforts to enhance media access, institutional transparency, and public awareness of judicial proceedings and reforms.
The facility provides court reporters with a dedicated and conducive workspace within the Supreme Court, enabling timely and effective coverage of judicial proceedings and institutional activities and improved access to court-related information.
The inauguration reflects the Supreme Court’s continuing commitment to transparency, wider public access to judicial information, constructive media engagement, and stronger institutional connectivity between the Court and the public.
