KARACHI: Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) celebrated Pakistan Independence Day with enthusiasm and traditional fervor, paying a glowing tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the establishment of our cherished homeland where Muslims could preserve their identity and enjoy full freedom.
The occasion featured a flag-hoisting ceremony attended by prominent figures, including Chancellor Muhammad Akbar Ali Khan, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Afzal Haq, Cdre. Syed Sarfraz Ali (R), SI (M), Prof. Dr. Jafer Nazir Usmani, Tariq Subzwari, Mohsin Khan, Mohsin Kazim, Dr. Kashif Sheikh, Dr. Abdul Moeed Khan, Dr. Fahad Farooqui, along with deans, department heads, faculty members, staff, students, and Aligarians.
Addressing the ceremony, President of Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys’ Association (AMUOBA) and Chancellor of Sir Syed University, Muhammad Akbar Ali Khan, highlighted the pivotal role of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan in shaping the history of the subcontinent.
He emphasized Khan’s “Two-Nation Theory,” which articulated the distinct identities of Hindus and Muslims, laying the ideological foundation for the demand for a separate Muslim state.
This vision ultimately culminated in the creation of Pakistan in 1947, a nation where every citizen can thrive in peace and harmony.
On this auspicious occasion, Chancellor Akbar Ali Khan announced the long-awaited revision of pay scales for grades 1 to 6, an issue that had remained unresolved for 11 years.
This revision fulfills our commitment to addressing pay scale concerns. We prioritize finding solutions over making empty promises. This change will provide essential financial support to those affected.
Chancellor Akbar Ali Khan urged attendees to recognize the challenges that lie ahead, calling for collective effort and commitment to contribute to societal betterment. “It is our responsibility as citizens to stand up for justice and strive for a brighter future for all,” he stated.
He encouraged unity in efforts to build a Pakistan that reflects the dreams of its founders—a nation that stands proudly on the global stage, where every citizen can live with dignity and pride.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Afzal Haque also spoke on the occasion, noting that “Our mission cannot be limited to producing graduates with degrees. Aligarh Spirit represents commitment to modern education, character building, self-reliance and national development.
We must produce competent professionals, innovative thinkers, entrepreneurs, responsible citizens and future leaders who can contribute meaningfully to Pakistan and compete confidently with the world.”
Presenting a vote of thanks, Registrar Cdre. Syed Sarfraz Ali (R), SI (M) emphasized that the memorable occasion serves as a reminder of our rich heritage and a celebration of our shared journey towards progress and unity.
He called for embracing the spirit of independence, unity, and progress to pave the way for a brighter future.
The event was concluded with Dua by Hafiz Arsalan Saeed for the prosperity of the Muslim Umma and the university.
Later, the delegation led by Chancellor Muhammad Akbar Ali Khan laid wreaths at Quaid-e-Azam’s mausoleum and offered Fateha.
They also paid respects at the graves of other national leaders, including Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah, Nawabzada Liaquat Ali Khan, Begum Rana Liaquat Ali Khan, Noorul Amin, and Sardar Abdul Rab Nishtar. Chancellor Akbar Ali Khan wrote comments in the visitors’ book to honor the Quaid’s legacy.
