KP govt to launch loan scheme for differently-abled persons
PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to launch the Ehsaas Loan Programme at a cost of Rs500 million to economically empower differently-abled persons.
This was announced by Advisor to KP Chief Minister on Social Welfare, Zakat and Ushr, Malik Liaquat Ali Khan, while addressing a KhuliKachehri (open forum) organized for differently-abled persons in Swabi.
He said that the Ehsaas Scholarship Programme, with an allocation of Rs700 million, had also been launched for differently-abled students.
He said that the Ehsaas Loan Programme has been included in the Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the current financial year. Under the initiative, interest-free loans will be provided to persons with disabilities on easy terms, enabling them to start businesses, earn a respectable livelihood and become economically self-reliant.
Malik Liaquat Ali Khan further announced that the EhsaasUmeed Card Programme would also be inaugurated this week.
Under the programme, 10,000 persons with disabilities will receive a monthly stipend of Rs5,000.
He added that a similar card-based initiative was also being introduced for orphans and widows, under which eligible beneficiaries would receive Rs5,000 per month.
He made it clear that all financial assistance would be transferred directly into the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries.
The Advisor said that persons with disabilities and other deserving segments of society would not have to visit government offices for registration.
Instead, registration facilities would be provided at their doorsteps.
On the occasion, he also announced financial assistance of Rs50,000 for an elderly person with a disability and directed the relevant authorities to take immediate steps to resolve the problems presented by persons with disabilities.
Malik Liaquat Ali Khan said that a special quota for persons with disabilities would be allocated in the Dowry Fund to help reduce the financial difficulties faced by them and their families.
