KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chief Monem Zafar on Thursday questioned whether Pakistan had merely replaced British rule with the domination of feudal lords, landlords and capitalists, saying the country was created for the supremacy of the Kalma-e-Tayyaba and urging the youth not to succumb to despair.
“Was Pakistan created merely to replace British slavery with the slavery of feudal lords, landlords and capitalists?” he asked while addressing an ‘Azadi Fiesta’ at the University of Karachi in connection with Independence Day celebrations.
He said the creation of Pakistan was the result of a long struggle by the Muslims of the subcontinent and that the dream envisioned by Allama Iqbal became a reality on August 14, 1947, under the leadership of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Monem Zafar said the nation needed to assess whether it had fulfilled its responsibility towards the purpose for which Pakistan was created. He urged students and young people to play their role in making the country better through their abilities, character and hard work.
He said Allah had blessed Pakistan with rivers, seas, mountains, forests and abundant mineral and natural resources. Pakistan was also the first nuclear power in the Muslim world, he said, adding that this was a matter of pride as well as a great responsibility.
The JI leader said the security, development and progress of Pakistan were the shared responsibility of all citizens, particularly the youth.
“Pakistan’s future was bright yesterday and remains bright today,” he said, urging young people not to lose hope and stressing that the country’s bright future could be ensured through individual responsibility, hard work and a commitment to national development.
He urged the youth to fulfil their responsibilities towards Pakistan and contribute to its construction, development and progress.
The Pakistan flag was also hoisted at the ceremony. Monem Zafar was accompanied by MPA Farooq Farhan and Gulshan Town Chairman Dr Fawad. Islami Jamiat Talaba University of Karachi chapter chief Huzaifa Siddiqui also addressed the ceremony.
