PM invites Norwegian firms to invest in oil, gas sector

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday invited Norwegian companies to invest in Pakistan’s oil and gas exploration sector, while expressing Islamabad’s strong desire to expand bilateral trade with Norway.

Talking to visiting Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide, the prime minister expressed satisfaction over the warm and cordial relations between the two countries and appreciated Norway’s cooperation with Pakistan, particularly in education, skilled labour, climate resilience and technology.

During discussions on regional and global developments, Prime Minister Sharif appreciated Norway’s strong and principled support for Palestine.

He also thanked Oslo for its consistent backing of Pakistan’s efforts to promote regional peace in the Gulf.

Foreign Minister Eide thanked the prime minister for the warm reception and conveyed the good wishes of Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas GahrStøre.

He praised Pakistan’s role in regional peace efforts and reaffirmed Norway’s interest in further strengthening bilateral ties across a range of sectors.

The Norwegian minister also appreciated the positive contribution of the Pakistani diaspora in Norway.

Prime Minister Sharif, meanwhile, invited his Norwegian counterpart to undertake an official visit to Pakistan.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Salik Hussain and other senior officials also attended the meeting.
