ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Yousaf Raza Gilani has reaffirmed what he has described as Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to One China Policy, saying that Pakistan and China are “iron brothers” and strategic partners, which according to him, have consistently stood by each other through difficult times.

Gilani expressed these views at an event he presided over as the Chief Guest.

The chairman Senate said China remains to be a key pillar of Pakistan’s foreign policy. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries.

“Pakistan-China friendship is an enduring and timeless bond of brotherhood, rooted in mutual trust, respect and unwavering support. This friendship enjoys broad political support across Pakistan and represents a national consensus,” he said.

Chairman Gilani said that bilateral relations between the two countries had evolved “far beyond traditional diplomatic ties into a comprehensive partnership based on mutual trust, respect and shared interests.”

The friendship between Pakistan and China held a “unique and deeply cherished place in the hearts of the Pakistani people,” he added.

The chairman Senate emphasised that sustained political, parliamentary and institutional engagement was essential for further consolidating the foundations of bilateral relations and promoting greater people-to-people understanding.

The political parties have a key role to play in ensuring the continuity and sustainability of national policies and strategic partnerships, he said.

Gilani also reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to further expand cooperation with China, and expressed confidence that “growing political, parliamentary and party-level engagement would create new opportunities for cooperation, mutual learning and institutional development.”

China’s Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong and other dignitaries attended the event.
