KARACHI: Sindh Labour, Human Resources and Social Protection Minister Saeed Ghani has assured labour representatives that the provincial government will not enact any legislation that compromises workers’ rights or interests.
The proposed Labour Code will be finalised only after extensive consultations with all stakeholders, he said during a meeting with representatives of various labour organizations in Sindh Assembly building on Tuesday.
The participants held detailed discussions on issues confronting workers and deliberated on proposed labour legislation in the province.
The minister also issued directions to senior Labour Department officials regarding matters raised during the meeting.
“The government wants labour laws to be implemented in a manner that addresses the legitimate concerns of both employees and employers while ensuring a balanced and fair legal framework,” he said.
Labour representatives expressed confidence that the Pakistan Peoples Party-led Sindh government would safeguard workers’ interests.
They welcomed Ghani’s consultative approach to the proposed Labour Code and appreciated efforts to involve labourorganisations in the legislative process.
The labour leaders said employers’ interests should be considered in framing labour legislation, but stressed that workers’ fundamental rights must not be compromised.
They also welcomed the provincial government’s decision to consult labourorganisations in Sindh before finalising and implementing the proposed Labour Code.
