ISLAMABAD: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi alleged on Tuesday that the current government’s priority was not Pakistan but suppressing PTI founding chairman and eliminating his party.
Talking to reporters outside the Supreme Court, where PTI’s lawmakers and lawyers were staging a sit-in outside Supreme Court to urge apex to fix Imran Khan’s cases on an immediate basis, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister said that the country is heading to destruction while the present government’s priority is to keep the PTI founder in isolation, ban meetings of his family members and lawyers with him in jail.
“We have to change these priorities because this is our country and these are our institutions,” he said.
To a question about Imran Khan’s health condition in prison, he said that we cannot say anything about his health, as for the last nine months neither his family members nor his legal team, as well as party leaders, have been permitted to meet him. “They have kept him in complete isolation for the last nine months”, he claimed.
He said that they have accused us of pursuing politics of chaos, but we have proved them wrong. During the last nine months, we have continuously adopted all democratic, constitutional and legal avenues, but no one listens to us, he said.
Afridi said that after receiving no response, now we have decided to stage a peaceful protest, which is our constitutional and legal right. The whole nation will take to the streets on September 27, he hoped, adding that the country’s youth are fed up with these rulers. He said that Pakistan’s youth were frustrated with the existing system and state institutions.
Later, PTI secretary general Salman Akram Raja, while talking to the media, said that he, along with other PTI leaders, met with the Supreme Court registrar and he promised that Imran Khan’s cases, especially related to the meeting with him which is currently pending before the apex court, would be fixed for hearing next week. “The cause list of Imran Khan cases would be issued in the next few days”, he said.
The sit-in was attended by a large number of PTI Members of National Assembly (MNAs), Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs), Senators and members of the Insaf lawyer forum.
