KP Govt restricts medicine budget for medicines purchase only

PESHAWAR: Health Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa issued strict directions regarding the utilization of the medicine budget allocated to District Health Offices and DHQ Hospitals for the financial year 2026-27 on Monday.

According to the directions issued by the Directorate General Health Services, the budget allocated for medicines shall be utilized strictly and exclusively for the purchase of medicines in accordance with the approved Standard Medicine List (SML) and all applicable rules and guidelines.

The Health Department has made it clear that no portion of the allocated medicine budget shall be utilized for any other activity, purpose or expenditure. The funds shall also not be used for payment or clearance of old liabilities or pending expenditures pertaining to previous financial years.

All District Health Officers and Medical Superintendents of DHQ Hospitals have been directed to ensure that the allocated medicine budget is utilized solely for its intended purpose during financial year 2026-27.

The Health Department has further directed all concerned officers to ensure strict compliance with these instructions. Any deviation or unauthorized utilization of the allocated funds will be viewed seriously, and responsibility for such utilization shall rest with the concerned officer.

The Health Department reiterated its commitment to ensuring transparent, proper and need-based utilization of public funds for the provision of medicines and improvement of healthcare services across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
