LAHORE: The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has launched a province-wide crackdown on tax evasion and record manipulation by restaurants, hotels and marriage halls, banning the issuance of manual or informal receipts with immediate effect.
Under new notifications issued by the authority, all such businesses are required to issue digitally monitored tax invoices through the Electronic Invoice Monitoring System (e-IMS). Officials said kitchen order slips, unpaid bills or other informal receipts could no longer be issued to customers in place of proper tax invoices.
They said every tax invoice must clearly mention the business name, address and receipt number and carry a PRA QR code for verification.
Businesses found violating the directives would face fines ranging from Rs400,000 to Rs1 million, while repeat offenders could have their establishments sealed for up to one month. The crackdown was ordered by PRA Chairman Moazzam Iqbal Sipra and has been rolled out through regional commissioners across Punjab. Enforcement teams have been authorised to take immediate action against businesses found violating the new invoicing requirements, officials said.
The PRA said the measures were aimed at improving tax compliance, preventing manipulation of sales records and ensuring that transactions in the hospitality and events sectors were properly brought into the documented tax system.
