LAHORE: Pakistan Kissan Ittehad Chairman Khalid Hussain Bath on Monday announced to launch a countrywide protest campaign from September 25, warning that farmers would march towards Rawalpindi if their grievances were not addressed.
Addressing at a press conference, he said farmers from Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Punjab would participate in the protest, with farmers from Sukkur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab expected to reach Rawalpindi.
He said the Pakistan Kissan Ittehad was preparing to hold the “biggest sit-in in the history of Pakistan”.
Bath said the farming community had been facing severe difficulties and warned that the situation would further deteriorate if corrective measures were not taken. He clarified that the organisation was not against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) as a political party, but was critical of the policies and performance of the Punjab government.
He said the farmers’ community would continue its protest movement and take it across the country if the government failed to respond to their concerns. The Pakistan Kissan Ittehad chairman said farmers from all four provinces had joined hands and would participate in the planned protest, adding that the organisation would go to any extent to press for resolution of farmers’ grievances.
