LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif said on Sunday that drainage projects had brought a marked impr-ovement in the situation during the monsoon, with rainwater that used to remain stagnant for days, weeks and months now being drained within hours.
She said the spirit of serving the people had been inherited from her leader Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, adding that the construction of the Vehari-Multan Road was the right of the people of the area, which Allah Almighty had enabled them to fulfil.
She said farmers in south Punjab were also benefiting from the Kisan Card, while students in the region were benefiting from laptops and Honhaar Scholarships.
The chief minister made these remarks during a meeting with members of the Punjab Assembly from Vehari — Muhammad Yousaf Kaseela, Malik Nosheer Anjum Langrial, Mian Muhammad Saqib Khurshid and Muhammad Naeem Akhtar Khan Bhabbha. Political affairs, development projects and public welfare schemes were discussed during the meeting.
The MPAs expressed their gratitude to CM Punjab for transforming the five-decade-old, single and dilapidated Vehari-Multan Road into a modern dual-carriageway expressway.
They termed the dualisation of the Vehari-Multan Road a game-changing project of the chief minister and apprised her of the excellent public feedback on the rehabilitation of the road.
The MPAs said the construction of the Vehari-Multan Road was a milestone for the development of the area. They also thanked the chief minister for launching the electric bus service in Vehari.
Paying tribute to the Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, they said the electric bus service from Vehari to Burewala and Tibba Sultanpur was an excellent transport facility for the people. The facility of free travel for students, women and senior citizens was an exemplary initiative of the chief minister, they added.
They said mega projects worth around Rs21 billion had been launched for the first time in the history of the area in the tehsils of Burewala, Mailsi and Vehari.
The beautification of Vehari Rail Bazaar had ushered the city’s urban culture into a new era, they said, adding that millions of passengers from four districts were benefiting from the dual-carriageway Multan-Vehari Road every day.
Speaking on the occasion, CM Punjab said the spirit of serving the people had been inherited from her leader Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. The immediate construction of the Vehari-Multan Road was the right of the people of the area and Allah Almighty had enabled them to fulfil it, she added.
She said the Punjab Development Programme had, for the first time, introduced a culture of uniform development across the province.
“By the grace of Allah Almighty, the situation has improved significantly during the current monsoon due to drainage projects. Rainwater that used to remain stagnant for days, weeks and months is now drained within hours,” she said.
