LAHORE: Additional Chief Secretary Punjab Iftikhar Ali Sahoo made a special visit to Multan and chaired an important meeting regarding cotton, rice and other agricultural activities.
The meeting reviewed the prevailing situation of agricultural crops in the province, measures for guiding farmers, and matters relating to the promotion of agricultural activities.
Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Asif Ali, Special Secretary Agriculture South Punjab Sarfraz Hussain Magsi, Directors General of Agriculture Department Punjab Abdul Hameed, Naveed Asmat Kahloon, Dr Aamir Rasool, Dr. Sajid-ur-Rehman, President Kissan Ittehad Khalid Mahmood Khokhar, Syed Hassan Raza, Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Bandesha, and other relevant officers of the Agriculture and Irrigation Departments attended the meeting.
Additional Secretary Task Force Shabbir Ahmed Khan, Director General Crop Reporting Dr Abdul Qayyum, Consultant Agriculture Department Dr. Muhammad Anjum Ali and other officers participated online.
Additional Chief Secretary Punjab was briefed that the overall situation of the cotton crop in Punjab was satisfactory while rice had been cultivated over more than 6 million acres against the set target of 5 million acres.
Speaking on the occasion, Additional Chief Secretary Punjab Iftikhar Ali Sahoo said that the development of the agriculture sector and prosperity of farmers were among the government’s priorities.
He directed that the activities of field formations for guiding farmers should continue uninterrupted. He said that the national economy could not even be conceived without cotton.
The strategy formulated for the revival of cotton should be implemented in letter and spirit. He directed that the process of technical guidance should be further accelerated to achieve quality and higher rice production.
Iftikhar Ali Sahoo said that Regional Agriculture Forums should play their full role in agricultural development by utilizing their best professional capabilities. He appreciated the performance and professional capabilities of the field formations of the Agriculture Department.
Later, Additional Chief Secretary Punjab Iftikhar Ali Sahoo also made a surprise visit to the Model Agriculture Mall, Multan. He directed that ample availability of fertilizers at the Model Agriculture Mall should be ensured.
