Car lifting and mobile phone snatching incidents increase manifold in ICT

ISLAMABAD: Car lifting and mobile phone snatching incidents have increased manifold in the federal capital, as over 50 incidents of various crimes were reported to different police stations during the last week.

The data collected by Business Recorder revealed that 50 incidents of crime included 31 carjacking cases, six street crimes [snatching of mobile phones and cash at gunpoint], and 10 cases of various kinds of theft, including robberies, in which citizens were deprived of valuables.

According to the data, during the last week, criminal gangs were most active within the jurisdictions of Ramana, Khanna, Hummak, Barakau, and Aabpara police stations. The 33 vehicles stolen during the last week included one car and 32 motorbikes.

During the last week, two armed robbers riding a bike in sector G-11/1 snatched a woman’s purse while she was walking. CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced, showing the suspects approaching the woman before snatching her purse and fleeing the scene. During the robbery, the woman fell onto the road and sustained injuries. According to the victim, the stolen purse contained cash, important documents, and other personal belongings. The suspects managed to escape after the incident.

Furthermore, a 40-year-old woman was found dead in a depression near Golra Railway Station within the jurisdiction of Golra Police Station. The deceased was identified as Hina, wife of Inayat-ur-Rehman.

In the same period, Ramana Police Station registered three cases of auto theft and one case each of robbery and street crime, while Khanna Police Station registered two cases of car lifting and one case each of street crime and robbery. Another four cases of auto theft were reported to Hummak Police Station.

Similarly, two cases of auto theft were registered at Tarnol Police Station, one case each of robbery and street crime was registered at Noon Police Station, and another case of auto theft was reported to Koral Police Station.
