Maternal, Newborn & Child Health: Balochistan govt signs MoU with National AI Hub at LUMS

LAHORE: The Balochistan government has signed a memorandum of understanding with the National AI Hub for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health at Lahore University of Management Sciences, launching a partnership to use artificial intelligence and digital tools to improve health outcomes for women and children in the province.

The agreement, signed at a ceremony bringing together provincial health officials, LUMS leadership, and technical experts, aims to identify where AI can strengthen health systems, guide policy, and improve service delivery. Balochistan’s delegation was led by Health Secretary Mujeeb-ur-Rehman, with participation from WHO’s Balochistan office and UNICEF joining virtually.

LUMS officials described the initiative as a chance to apply the university’s research in computer science and AI to real health challenges, while emphasizing that solutions should be developed locally rather than simply imported. The partnership will focus on research, capacity-building, and piloting AI tools tailored to Balochistan’s infrastructure and languages, with an eye toward eventual scale-up.
