The government has reappointed National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) President and chief executive officer (CEO) Rehmat Ali Hasnie for an additional two weeks.

The listed bank shared the development in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Thursday.

“The Government of Pakistan, Finance Division, has reappointed Rehmat Ali Hasnie as President/CEO, National Bank of Pakistan, for a period of two weeks, w.e.f. August 07, 2026, or till the new President/CEO, NBP assumes office, whichever is earlier,” read the notice.

In July 2023, the Finance Division proposed Hasnie’s name to the federal cabinet as the principal candidate for the permanent post of President/CEO of NBP for a period of three years.

The government officially appointed him as the President of NBP in August 2023.

Rehmat Ali Hasnie made NBP President

The banker has been with NBP since 2010 and has headed investment banking, corporate banking and priority sector lending.

Hasnie has over 25 years of work experience in economics research, capital markets, investment banking, treasury and credit markets at various institutions in Pakistan.

He is a financial markets professional with an MA Degree in Development Banking from The American University (USA).

Moreover, he has also served on the Boards of Pakistan Mercantile Exchange Limited, First National Bank Modaraba, First Credit & Investment Bank, Agritech Ltd, and Fauji Akbar Portia Marine Terminals as a nominee director of NBP.
