Fight against terrorism: Corps Commander vows military’s continued support for KP Police
ISLAMABAD: Corps Commander Peshawar on Tuesday reaffirmed the military’s continued support for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police in the fight against terrorism, stressing that the Pakistan Army and provincial police would continue joint operations with full force until the complete elimination of terrorists and other peace spoilers.
The assurance came during the Corps Commander’s visit to the Central Police Office (CPO) in Peshawar, where he was received by Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed, along with additional inspectors general, deputy inspectors general and other senior police officials.
A smartly turned-out police contingent presented a guard of honour, while the Corps Commander laid a floral wreath at the police martyrs’ memorial and offered prayers for the fallen personnel.
During a high-level briefing, the IGP informed the Corps Commander about the overall law and order situation in the province, ongoing counterterrorism operations, intelligence-based operations (IBOs), security arrangements for sensitive installations and public places, operational preparedness, and the use of modern command-and-control systems, drones and anti-drone technologies.
The briefing highlighted that the KP Police was implementing a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism, extremism and all forms of crime, while intensifying intelligence-based operations to thwart terrorist attacks before they occur. It added that advanced technologies were being employed to track and neutralise terrorist networks while ensuring the writ of the state.
The IGP also briefed the meeting on plans to transform five districts into model centres of smart and citizen-centric policing through smart surveillance, digital monitoring, modern investigation systems, transparent service delivery and intelligence-led policing. The model will subsequently be expanded across the province in phases.
He further outlined ongoing welfare initiatives for police personnel, including professional training, provision of modern protective equipment, improved residential and medical facilities, support for families of martyrs and other welfare programmes aimed at enhancing the morale of officers and personnel.
The Corps Commander praised the KP Police for its professionalism, bravery and sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and expressed full confidence in the force’s operational capabilities. He also appreciated the measures taken for the welfare of police personnel.
At the conclusion of the visit, the Corps Commander met police officers and personnel and reiterated the shared resolve of the Pakistan Army and KP Police to eliminate terrorism through close coordination, integrated strategy and the use of modern resources while ensuring the protection of citizens’ lives and property.
